Your car is a major investment, and it also gets you where you need to go. As such, it deserves proper care and maintenance to keep it running well. Many accidents are due to car problems that could be easily prevented with a little simple vehicle maintenance. You can perform many routine checks on your car yourself, and for many of them, you can also handle them without having to be a mechanic.

If you want your vehicle to give you years of dependable service then preventative maintenance is the way to go. Extended tire life, better fuel economy, and lower emissions are just some of the benefits to properly looking after your vehicle. You also will be able to find problems as they start before they become big expensive problems. Remember the importance of keeping up with your vehicles maintenance.

What is important in taking proper care of your car? Keep these items in mind.

Keep it simple. A quick look into your owners manual or maintenance book will tell you the proper intervals for oil changes, tune ups, and other things.

Oil and oil filters should be changed as needed, or about every 3000 miles, for most cars. Some cars do allow more mileage between changes, so check your owner’s manual.

Check all your fluid levels weekly. Check oil, brake fluid, trans fluid, power steering, and coolant as often as every week. Washer fluid levels should also be checked often to as it is important to clean off your windshield. Take some time and top off any low fluids.

Check the proper inflation of tires weekly. Under inflated tires will cause more drag and lower your fuel economy. Over inflated tires can cause a blow out.

The tread wear pattern of your tires is also very important. If you notice the tire is worn, cracked, or has the steel belt exposed it is time to replace the tire. Take the time to fasten the lug nuts as well.

Schedule and take your car in for regular tuneups. If your spark plugs or fuel injection are causing problems, your fuel mileage could be reduced by as much as 35%. It may be tempting to postpone tuneups, and a lot of people do especially if their cars appear to be running fine, but don’t. Take your car to a professional mechanic so that your engine is thoroughly inspected for any problems that are small now, but that could be bigger later.

A well lubed chassis is very important. A good shop like Riverview Service center in Elmwood Park NJ will lube your suspension as part of the oil change service.

Your cars battery is the heart of the electrical system. Make sure you check it regularly and pay special attention to the cables and terminals. Corrosion that has built up can be cleaned off with a wire brush. Make sure you have a good tight connection to prevent what may seem like a dead battery.

A torn wiper blade does not help you at all. Take the time to inspect your wiper blades as well. If they are torn or cracked replace them. At a minimum replace them once a year anyway. You should also consider a protective coating like rainx to increase visibility in really bad weather.

Check your headlights, too, as well as tail lights and turn signals, once a week. Replace any burned-out bulbs, because this can cause you to have an accident or other problems.

Once you get the hang of checking on your vehicle you will realize that a little goes a long way in keeping your car looking good and staying on the road.

The Dodge Ram has been on the road now for almost thirty years – across four different generations of models, and the current version of the Dodge Ram, a mighty car with the ultimate presence that a full sized pickup truck has to hand, is one of the true icons of US motoring.

Built to last, the Ram was a mighty vehicle in its original form with a choice of powerful engines and a variety of cab layouts and design which, coupled with many interior trim options, made customising yours to your own ideals easy, yet the current model, introduced for the 2009 model year, is one of the finest vehicles on the roads of the USA.

As the older models are long lived and seemingly indestructible it is little surprise that the call for Dodge Ram replacement parts is widespread, and the availability of genuine brand new aftermarket Dodge Ram parts means that updating your Ram or replacing worn out parts is no big deal.

One method of getting hold of the best Dodge Ram replacement parts is through online sellers. While local dealerships will undoubtedly stock the latest parts for the latest models, there are several outlets on the internet that are solely dedicated to supplying Dodge Ram parts online. Plenty of online parts suppliers can be found by simply typing ‘Dodge Ram parts’ into a search engine.

Yes, looking online first is, as with most other purchasing decisions, the best way to go. It is quick, simple and secure to buy the Dodge Ram parts you require; whether you need mirrors or lights, engine parts or radiator cooling fans, there are plenty of suppliers of Dodge Ram replacement parts with comprehensive websites and online catalogues for you to look through.

If you prefer to go down the dealership route then the choice of yours, but bear in mind that some of the best manufacturers supply OEM standard – that is parts designed to fit straight on as the original. Dodge Ram parts via online sources, and using a web based supplier not only guarantees you a quick delivery, but a cheaper price thanks to reduced overheads.

Whichever way you decide upon to find Dodge Ram replacement parts, you can be sure that sooner or later you will have your Dodge Ram looking and running exactly how you want it to. One final note though, ensure that you only use a supplier of reputable Dodge Ram repair parts, such as one that a friend of yours has previously used or one mentioned in an article that you have read. Do this, and you will be certain that your Ram remains running smoothly for years to come.

If aftermarket parts are certified and meet OEM standards, you can relax in the knowledge that you have ordered the best Dodge Ram aftermarket parts available online. There are many quality sites that offer Dodge Ram Parts, but www.dodgeramreplacement.com/pickup is one of the best.

Have you thought of adding Headlight Repair to your auto detailing business? A new set of sealed beam headlights on a New Jeep Cherokee could run as high as $70, however your team can make money lightly sanding and coating these headlights with the Micro-Glass product in the Micro-Mesh Kit by Micro Surface Corporation. It is important for the detailing companies to constantly review such products, this innovation has propelled our team to come up with the solutions for our fleet customers and help us bundle services to compete against the other large vendors to these fleet companies. One company we compete with out of New Jersey does offer this service, but we do and we are able to use this to our advantage on bidding on fleet detailing work.

This is just one more way you can bundle services to provide a value added service to your customers. We have talked to managers of fleet wash companies and fleet detailing companies in their various markets. Some of these managers have told us they have been looking into doing headlight restoration, because their customers are now asking for the service. Many of the high-end to Auto detailing shops do offer headlight restoration using various methods. Recently with the floods that we’ve had in the United States, we have seen Auto auctions start to offer this service also. Generally the Auto auctions that we’ve seen do not know how to deal with sealed beams, instead they’re much better with none sealed beams, and by removing the lens and wiping down the inside and using glass wax they are able to make the lenses look transparent and therefore the car looks sellable as runs through the auto auctions.

Whereas this is a good idea for auto auctions it is not good enough for the fleet customers especially those that assign their cars to specific individuals. Companies like the Baby Bells, quest, Cox cable, AT&T, FedEx, United States Postal Service etc. have thousands and thousands of vehicles. Generally these vehicles are assigned for the most part with very few as a percentage of the total fleet being pool cars like at the GSA office. As the vehicles get back from Iraq and Kuwait and were ever they do next to wipe out terrorism from the face of the planet, they will have sand blasted headlights, from the very fine silica type sand of the Middle East. So how does one go about taking care of this problem? Well, it is much simpler than you think.

The first thing to do is to assess exactly how bad the damage it is this can be done in a number of ways; first, you would get the opaqueness or cloudiness of the lens. Second, you look to see if there’s any pit marks and hard water spots. This is how you assess which method you’ll use to either clean or restore the surface. Let’s face it if there’s too much damage, the time it will take to fix the lens will cost you more than to replace it. The micromesh is cool because you can use it either wet or dry when you’re sanding. How much do most detailers charge for this service? Well in depends the tupe of vehicles and locations of the fleets; vans such bread companies, wholesale companies, small package delivery companies, online grocery services, dry cleaners, flower shops, armored car services, limo services, school buses, garbage trucks any other fleets mentioned above, we have found that is not difficult to get 8 to $10 per lens, remember each of the service trucks or cars have between two and for lenses.

This can add up to quite a lot of money very quickly. We have also found that used car dealerships will go for it once you show them how it works. We also found it to be a nice add-on to keep our crews busy in inclement weather. As you know the Northeast United States has been slammed by snowstorms and Nor-Easters, these additional services provide an extra revenue generator when wash cars.

There is a great article in TSP magazine in the October — November 2003 edition about this product and ease of use. The micromesh soft touch pads are only three by four inches with a phone center but they were killer since they have micromesh upon both sides. When using them they bend with the lens as you’re working so you can go fast with even pressure. We found that we could clean, micromesh, white and buff a lens in about six to eight minutes. If you’re working indoors on a fleet of vehicles in the winter in the northern colder climates of the US or Canada you can make money no matter what the weather is in this is just one more way we are solving the problem of continuing sales with a mobile carwash or mobile detailing rig in the harsh winter weather climates. By using the micromesh can’t it cuts down the time to do the job significantly. The old way was to use different levels of fine grit sandpaper slowly working up.

Curry’s Auto Service , with four convenient Northern Virginia locations

As fuel prices continue to go up you may be figuring out how to increase gas mileage. If you are looking for ways to improve gas mileage or increase fuel efficiency there are several do it yourself solutions available to consider as part of your standard vehicle maintenance.

Doing a tune up could improve gas mileage up to 20% or more if a faulty oxygen sensor is found. This is extreme but if your engine is idling roughly or hesitating and spiting smoke out the tail pipe then you should and get a full engine tune up you should increase gas mileage and possibly improve the life of your engine saving hundreds or thousands of dollars in future repairs.

Checking your tire pressure could save money. Some people overlook this maintenance and it is best checked monthly. By keeping your tires at recommended pressure as outlined in your owners manual you can get better gas mileage of 2-3%. The net results is you could save hundreds of dollars of more because when your tires are inflated properly it also extends the life of your tires.

Driving habits can have a real adverse affect on mileage. Driving habits can be finding the shortest way home or the route that is the most direct and has the least amount of stops along the way. If you have been asking yourself how to get better gas mileage this is a big factor. Find an online mapping service that shows you direct routes.

Do you use your vehicle or car trunk as a storage unit? By eliminating every 100lbs in your vehicle you could be increasing gas mileage by a percentage point. Many people are so extreme in this extra weight that they may only keep their gas tank partially filled to reduce weight. Gas weighs about 6.1 pounds per gallon at room temperature. If your are deciding on how to increase gas mileage there are many solutions to help help improve gas mileage.

Traveling by car is a great way to see a country at home as well as abroad. However, when it comes to car insurance, there are a number of issues that you should be aware of before you embark on your trip. When driving a car, you need to be protected for many types of car issues that may arise.

If you are visiting friends or family and you want to use their car, it is important to know if you are covered. To be safe, you can purchase short term car insurance. If a car problem occurs, it will not affect the car owners insurance policy. You can obtain short term insurance for as little as a day or more, as long as it does not extend past one year. If you are renting a car, you have to make sure that you understand what you are covered for and if there are any restrictions. If your rental car receives damage which you are deemed responsible, the rental car company will try to collect any financial damages from your car insurance company or from you if your insurance provider will not pay.

All car rental companies will offer insurance to their customers. It is important to check to see what their coverage includes. As well, you should also check with your credit card company to find out if they provide coverage and the details of this coverage. If you are planning to rent a car, you should give the name and licenses of anyone who will be driving the car. As well, tell them if you are planning to drive the car out of the state.

If you are planning on driving a rental car out of the country, you should check to see if you car insurance provider will provide coverage. If not, you should check your credit card companys policy. If your insurance does not transfer internationally, you should obtain complete coverage through the rental car company or obtain short term car insurance. International rental car companies may offer optional theft and vandalism insurance coverage for the car rental. When securing insurance for a rental car, you should have liability. The best way to find out if what you are covered for when renting a car is to call you vehicle insurance provider. As well, call and ask your credit card company about the type of coverage they provide for a car rental. When acquiring insurance for international rentals, you should have liability, collision, theft, and medical coverage.

If you are driving a company car, you should learn about the car insurance quote and coverage provided. If your employer does not tell you, you should ask the insurance company. It is important to know about liability, theft, vandalism, and collision. As well, you should find out if the companys insurance covers others if they drive the car and if you are covered if you leave the state.

When you are driving within your own country or abroad, it is important to know that you are protected in all driving situations. It will give you peace of mind knowing that if something happens, you will have assistance from an insurance provider.

by Stephan Marking

Recently, I was encouraged to get my spark plugs changed when a friend of mine was looking over my car. It made me start to wonder what exactly spark plugs do, and the whens and whys of changing them. Here are some things to help anyone else who is wondering the exact same thing.

Your spark plugs are an important part of starting your vehicle. In fact, the spark plugs are what delivers the spark to ignite the fuel and engine so that it starts. The details of exactly how your spark plugs are perfectly positioned and timed to work are truly amazing when you understand them fully.

When it comes to when and why you should change your spark plugs, there are a couple of different reasons why they need to be changed. Some people like to follow the mileage that is suggested by there vehicles manufacturing manual that comes with your car. If you want to really prevent and maintain your car, you’ll want to follow that manual.

Spark plugs, just like anything else in your vehicle, are going to work the best when used for the right amount of time. If you over use them you can experience increased emissions, rough idle, and loss of ideal performance and energy. Following the exact timing of your manufacturer’s vehicle manual may seem a naissance at times but it really is there to help you maintain a long lasting vehicle.

There are other reasons too that you have to change your spark plugs, these include fouled, worn, or spark plugs with bad wires. These are a bit harder to spot and most likely you will have to take your car to a local car shop to have them checked out. If you are very familiar with cars you will be bale to spot a certain firing pattern with your cylinders that will lead to why your spark plugs may or may not be functioning properly.

As you continue to use the same spark plugs the electrodes will wear. As this continues and gets worse, your car will have to over work to be able to ignite the spark. Soon, your car won’t be able to produce the firing voltage and your spark plugs will need to be replaced.

If you are having difficulty starting your car, if it cranks but wont turn over, the first thing you want to do is double check your spark plugs. If you find that they are wearing out then it is time to change them. Many people choose to change them themselves, but some still like to bring it in first to a mechanic to make sure that it really is the spark plugs that are the problem.

Also check your vehicles manufacturers manual to see if what it says about spark plugs. Different vehicles may have different warnings and requirements. If you have any further questions talk to your local car shop, they will be able to tell you exactly what your vehicle needs.

It can be hard to find the perfect auto repair shop that you can really trust, because of that most people find themselves spending more money by just going to their dealership for repairs. The thing is, most of the time they will charge you more, and the wait will be longer. Here are some tips so that you can know what to look for in a good auto repair shop.

The first thing that I look for when I look for a great auto repair shop is great customer service. If the auto shop can?t communicate well with the customer, it doesn?t matter how much they charge, I would never work with them. The customer needs to know what is going on at all times with their car so communication and customer service is my number one priority.

Get on the Internet and start looking around for local auto repair shops near you. While you?re doing that, look up reviews and experiences people have had with each shop. You?ll be able to see what the shop didn?t put on their website.

When you slowly narrow down your search also check out the experience and background that a company has. Usually you can find this information out on their website or with a quick call.

Many times customers will just ask about the price and not about other key issues, and they?ll go with the lowest price they can find. This can help save money right here and now, but it might not last as long as you would hope. Find a company that will walk you through all the parts and prices and don?t be afraid to pay more for better quality.

If you are still nervous about a company after finding out the above, call up the auto shops and ask them if they have references. There is nothing wrong with going the extra mile to make sure that you get the best possible repair shop.

Don?t forget to ask them about possible warranty information on labor or parts. You need to know that the company you choose believes in there work and products.

Also ask them about possible certifications that their mechanics have. Certifications will show how qualified the mechanics are too.

There are some easy ways to find out if your car has problems. For example, if you have a problem with your axle, there are key signs that you can listen for to know if you need to bring it in to be fixed. Here are some other interesting facts about your axle.

One thing to listen for when you are driving is a clicking sound. This usually will happen when you turn right or left. It can also occur when you lift your foot from the gas.

If you find that the noise is more of a whining or a low rumble you can know it isn’t your axel but something else in your engine like a bearing unit.

Axles are a key part of your steering system, and as such are very important. Your axle can be more complicating that you may think. It is different with every car.

Now a days newer cars have a split axle. This means that both sides are connected to separate shafts. This allows for an easier ride because each side has separate suspension.

Besides comfort, a split axle will provide safety through better traction. You see, as you turn, both wheels will turn at different speeds to give that added traction. If you live in a climate where there is a lot of rain and snow on the ground you will need more traction.

Because axles are a key part of your steering and traction if you do find there is a problem don’t wait to get it repaired. It can be very hazardous to drive with your axle out of wack.

Don’t let distractions like music take away from time listening to how your car sounds. If you hear anything that is off your car is trying to tell you something. Listen to it, take care of it, and get it fixed sooner rather than later.

Having an automobile can sometimes be a bit stressful. A new noise or light coming on can weigh heavily on your mind. You may not be able to afford any repairs at the moment, but avoiding maintenance can sometimes lead to greater expenses down the line. So it is a good idea to find a respectable mechanic for your car right away.

A good car repair shop should never have to have ridiculous or unexplainable prices to make money. Also the mechanics there should be well-trained and should have a lot of hours worth of labor on vehicles like your own. The easiest to make your car problems go from bad to worse is to take it to a bad mechanic who causes you to have to return or go elsewhere for further repairs. You don’t want to be some weasely repair shops guinea pig, certainly not with your mode of transportation. There is nothing more frustrating than someone who is supposed to solve your problem complicating it further through ignorance or carelessness.

Pausing for a moment to do a little research on the best available car repair shops, will greatly benefit you. Ask someone close to you for advice on who you should go to. Also ask them if the car repair shops they go to work on your type of vehicle. Foreign and domestic vehicles have different needs and considerations, so do different vehicle brands. If your city or town doesn’t have a lot of options to choose from, don’t hesitate to go somewhere else. You may find a better deal or a more qualified and reliable alternative to your local car repair shops.

Also any auto repair shop should allow you to examine there facility. When you take your vehicle in for an estimate, ask to look around so that you can evaluate the conditions of their work environment and the caliber of their clientele. A clean shop that isn’t a graveyard for old beaters is what you want to look for. Nice cars being worked on is also a plus. More expensive vehicles usually come with more concerned and discerning owners. That in itself is a good referral. Recommendations and research are always going to give you a better advantage when selecting a car repair shop or mechanic, so don’t skimp on these steps.

Auto collision is another matter. Auto collision repair is not exactly the same as conventional car repair. If a standard repair shop offers to do your auto collision repair for you, be sure that they have experience and existing customers for auto collision repair. But if your vehicle has been damaged in an accident, it is wisest to got o a repair shop that exclusive deals with auto collision repair.

Your vehicle is often your livelihood. Damage or other problems with your car can take up a lot of your time and cause you a lot of stress. However not tending to these issues, can compound into even further difficulties. As soon as possible, have your vehicle repaired to save yourself time and money overall. And be sure to use these tactics here to find the best deal on the best car repair shop for you.
